The Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program is a two-year program for health profession students who want to practice health care in rural and urban underserved areas.

AHEC Scholars gain lifetime connections with health professionals in a variety of disciplines. AHEC Scholars work as an interdisciplinary team and gain access to real world experience beyond the classroom through workshops, a statewide speaker series, newsletters, and by applying their skills in community-based experiences.

Those accepted into the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program may be eligible for a stipend.

As a member of AHEC we are given a unique opportunity to come together with students from a variety of healthcare and associated backgrounds to discuss patient care from multiple perspectives. It helps to establish a foundation for a successful and collaborative environment in our professional practice. In addition, AHEC gives us as students the opportunity to discuss the topics we’re curious about and engage in conversation with experts in certain important fields.” – James Vermilion, University of Nebraska Medical College Nursing Student, AHEC Scholar, Class of 2022

The medical profession is a complex web of different people doing their jobs for the benefit of the patient, AHEC brings us together for this purpose.” – Leyton Luke, Western Nebraska Community College Health Information Technology Student, AHEC Scholar, Class of 2022
